Contingency

(Acrylic on wood slab, 9 in. in diameter, created in 2019)

My freshmen year at Fort Lewis College was filled with exploration of nature, philosophy and art. For one of my art assignments I was to create a work of art inspired by a song, so I chose to play ‘Ascension’ by Beach Fossils over and over again while I painted on a slice of tree trunk. I ended up with this lovely painting which also reflects the Buddhist doctrine of interdependent arising that I was learning in my Chinese Philosophy class. With this project, I learned that I love working with acrylic on wood.

* Original painting sold.
