Emergence

(Acrylic on wood, 2ft. x 3ft. created in 2020)

This painting was created for submission in a Pendleton Blanket design contest for tribal students. I created this design with traditional Diné (Navajo) artforms in mind, including weaving, sand-painting, petroglyph, and pottery. The shapes that make up the foundation of this design are also inspired by Diné (Navajo) stories including the stories of Spiderwoman, the warrior twins, and Changing Woman. Although this painting did not receive recognition from Pendleton, I am proud to document traditional knowledge of my culture into a painting that others can study in the future.
